Ruth Kaye's warm, witty one-woman show is the perfect intergenerational program for any Jewish organization. With her rich mezzo-soprano voice and lively personality, Miss Kaye interweaves her family story with a potpourri of Jewish music taken from various sources. Her gift for characterization brings to life a family tree of fascinating women.
Miss Kaye begins her story in 19th century Russia, portraying her grandmother Anna, who comes to America and begins to raise her family. As her narrative unfolds, Ruth focuses on her mother Leah, a beautiful, resilient young woman, who marries her childhood sweetheart, survives a family crisis, and learns to make a life of her own. Finally, Ruth reveals herself has an awkward young adult, who later blossoms into a wife, mother and singer. In a touching climax, Ruth celebrates the mysterious and beautiful link that connects one generation another.
Although the story Ruth tells is based on her own family, audiences relate to it because the joys and sorrows she dramatizes are part of the history of any Jewish family.
